At North Hertfordshire College, we work hard to ensure our students have the skills and experience they need to start their chosen careers. This work wouldn’t be possible without the excellent support we receive from our employer partners, who not only help shape our curriculum but also provide invaluable opportunities to our students.
Our Digital department were delighted to welcome some of our employer partners to our Stevenage campus for a networking lunch. Tutors, work experience co-ordinators, and additional learning support staff were on hand to introduce themselves to new employers hosting their first NHC work experience, as well as catch-up with those they’ve worked with before. It was great to see employers networking with each other, too!
Rob Tattam, Programme Manager for NHC’s Foundation Degrees in Computing and Course Team Leader for 16+ courses, led a presentation about how the Digital department at NHC is structured and how the T Level programme works for those unfamiliar with the new qualifications. A representative from Willmott Dixon also shared their insights and advice on the T Level placement process, having successfully taken on 6 T Level students in the previous academic year.
With questions answered and sandwiches consumed, it was then time for the T Level students to make their appearance! The event was structured in a speed-networking format, with students working in pairs to approach each employer and find out more about what their organisation does. Employers also had a chance to talk more about the placement opportunity on offer. Both our students and employer partners could then make notes about each other before forming a list of who they think they match the best with. Our Digital department will now compare the lists and work with the employers to onboard their new T Level placement students.
We’re pleased that the event was a great success, and our Digital tutors have received positive feedback from the employers who attended. A representative from Mobility2You got in touch to say: “Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of the T Level work experience programme. I felt the event was really well-run, very informative, and a privilege to be a part of. It was also fantastic to have an opportunity to meet and talk to all the students.
“I would like to reiterate that I feel all the students were wonderful in their own way and have specific skills and attributes that would most certainly fit into many companies.”
