North Hertfordshire College’s Digital students recently enjoyed an inspiring guest speaker session from Adrian Samuel, a senior software engineer at GSK.
Adrian shared details about his career so far, including the different roles he’s worked in and how they’ve helped lead him to his current job. He even shared tips for how students can expand their skills and learning beyond their NHC courses, such as by competing in hackathons and attending meet-ups to expand their network. This advice will help our learners to truly shine when it comes to applying for jobs, apprenticeships, or university courses, by proving their skills and providing crucial work experience.
There were lots of opportunities for our students to get involved with the session, too, by asking questions about the projects Adrian has worked on. Adrian even shared tips on how students can look after their wellbeing when it comes to applying for jobs.
Adrian’s session has certainly left a positive impression on our students. Donell, who is currently working towards his T Level in Digital, told us: “Adrian has the most dynamic career path I have ever heard of.”
The guest speaker session formed part of Magical Week, which gave learners at our Stevenage campus the chance to take a bit of a break in the first half-term of the academic year. Our students enjoyed a range of activities that went beyond the classroom, including industry talks and wellbeing activities, helping them to unwind and remember what it is they’re working towards through their NHC course.
