Our Business and Digital learners have been busy out and about on exciting trips in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025.
With a visit to Lidl’s largest distribution centre for our business learners and a visit to Computacenter for our Digital learners, the students had invaluable experiences highlighting the important roles of women in industry.
Business students visited Lidl’s largest distribution centre for an Industry Insights Day, focusing on women in business. The visit provided students with a behind-the-scenes look at the logistics and retail industry, highlighting the diverse career opportunities available to women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
The day started with a warm welcome from Lidl’s Sales, Supply Chain and Human Resources teams. Students explored each department’s operations and the vital role women play in shaping the industry.
One of the highlights was an engaging talk by Marie, Regional Learning and Development Manager at Lidl, who outlined her own career journey and the company’s commitment to mentoring and supporting women in the workforce.
Learners were then taken on an exclusive tour of the warehouse, where they met female logistics leaders and gained a first-hand understanding of the fast-paced world of distribution.
One Business learner shared their thoughts on the experience: “It was amazing to see the different career paths available. Hearing from inspiring female leaders at Lidl has really broadened my perspective of the opportunities in this industry.”
Liz Chatman, Head of Business, commented: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain real-world insights into the logistics and retail industries. Seeing first-hand how Lidl operates and hearing from inspiring female leaders was truly eye-opening for our students.
“We are incredibly grateful to Lidl for hosting such an engaging and informative day, and for their commitment to supporting and empowering women in the workforce. Thank you to the entire Lidl team for making this experience so valuable for our students!”
The celebrations don’t stop there!
While our Business learners were out engaging with representatives from Lidl, our Digital learners were invited to attend the International Women’s Day Outreach Event at Computacenter’s head office in Hatfield!
Their day began with an introduction to Computacenter, exploring their mission, and the exciting career paths available at their organisation.
Next up, the group got stuck into an Innovation Enablement Workshop. This interactive session explored software development skills which support creativity and innovative thinking.
After this, our learners were taken on a full tour of the warehouse to get a behind-the-scenes look at Computacenter’s operations.
After the tour, our Digital learners took part in Computacenter’s Partners Women’s Panel Discussion, an opportunity to engage with influential women in various fields and gain insight into their unique career journeys.
The event finished with an employability activity, enhancing key skills like interviewing and communication. This activity also provided the chance for our learners to network with industry-professionals, establishing valuable relationships to help them progress in their career.
Renee Ramsay-Nicol, Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Apprentice at Computacenter commented:
“Computacenter hosted another successful International Women’s Day event at their Hatfield headquarters. It was such a delight to invite students from North Hertfordshire College to join us again to celebrate the occasion and embark on various activities and sessions across the day.
“The students participated in an Innovation Workshop, a Warehouse Tour, and a Sustainability Business Challenge. They were also introduced to an amazing panel of inspiring guest speakers from Compuatcenter and Aviva. We hope the students benefited greatly from the day and we look forward to future collaboration with North Hertfordshire College.”
Our Business and Digital students’ International Women’s Day celebrations not only provided valuable industry insights but encouraged our students to consider their future careers and how they can foster inclusivity and support women in the workplace in their future roles.
A huge thank you to Lidl and Computacenter for helping our learners celebrate International Women’s Day! Both trips were a fantastic opportunity to empower our learners, add context to their classroom learning and celebrate the powerful women in Business and Digital sectors.
