Case Study: Teaching for the Future

Published on June 12, 2023

At North Hertfordshire College, we not only teach our students how to be experts in their field, but we also train future teachers too! We’re really proud of our Education and Teaching programmes, where we share best practice and knowledge with those responsible for the education of the future workforce.

Celebrating the success of our programmes, we’re delighted to share this open letter from Maggie Klem who is currently undertaking the Diploma in Education and Training (DET) level 5 to further develop her skills and knowledge in her role as Learning and Development Officer in Adult Care Services.

“I am really enjoying the DET course here at NHC, it’s been fascinating to meet other students and learn from their professional experiences. This sharing of knowledge has enabled me to implement their good practice to improve my work as a further educator in my organisation. Also, it was an eye-opening experience as I was able to compare my working practices with the NHC teacher’s practice.

“I am impressed with the College’s ability to accommodate all age students from different professional backgrounds. The tutor has always been willing to put in extra time to explain some topics in more depth as its needed, so it has always felt inclusive.

“In addition, the course helps me to improve my practice by more effective implementation of the learning theories. I am now able to reflect on my own teaching style and I started to use lesson planning more effectively in my practice. This course refreshed and increased my subject knowledge with further introduction of learning theories into my professional world. Following my completion of this course, I plan to apply for the QTLS registration which will develop my skills even further and in turn benefit the students in my classroom!

“If you’re an adult and thinking about studying at North Hertfordshire College, I would say go for it! The College is a modern building fully adapted to meet the needs of all individuals who would like to continue their education.

“I have been privileged to meet knowledgeable and dedicated tutors who are always happy to help and support students and other professionals and who work with a humanistic and individual approach. It has really been a fantastic educational experience.”

Thank you, Maggie, for your honest feedback on the programme! If you’re someone who’s looking to upskill, change career, or give back to your community, be sure to check out North Hertfordshire College’s range of Education and Teaching programmes.
