You might have seen that some of North Hertfordshire College’s Computing, Networking & Design team hosted some online sessions for the Hertfordshire branch of the British Computing Society, sharing their knowledge with members of the public. But did you know how our tutors and support coaches were chosen for this exciting opportunity?
Enter Paul Moggridge, Computer Science Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire and British Computing Society committee member! Paul reached out to our teams as a result of his own experience with NHC – find out more in his open letter below.
“As a committee, we strive to provide a programme of varied and high-quality educational content for our membership. I reached out to North Hertfordshire College because, from personal experience of their school-leaver and adult evening courses, I knew they have many high-quality educators who could bring technical topics to life. I knew that the team would be able to give our attendees the practical know-how they needed so that they could apply their learning in their personal and professional lives.
“I’m an NHC alum myself. While I was still in secondary school, I studied an adult evening course on web design alongside my Grampa, who was in his 70s! During the course, we learnt how to use Adobe Dreamweaver CS4.
“Once I finished secondary school, I decided to join NHC to study a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma for IT Practitioners, for which I received D*D*D* – the highest possible grade. I was lucky to have several brilliant tutors when I studied the course. One tutor in particular, Toby Henness, entered a few other students and me into various competitions and volunteering opportunities whilst on the course. After finishing my BTEC in 2012, I briefly worked for NHC as an IT Assessor (teaching assistant) over the summer, supporting Level 2 students. I then went to study at the University of Hertfordshire.
“Now I’m teaching the subject I care about and am sharing my own knowledge with the next generation of learners. I’m grateful for all the opportunities that helped me get to this point!”
Thank you to Paul for keeping connected to our NHC community!
