Just ask Leanne Barber! Leanne studied her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports & Exercise Science at North Hertfordshire College and is now working towards her BSc in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath. We caught up with her to find out how Leanne’s NHC experience prepared her for this new stage in her education journey:
“Chris and George [Sports tutors] were so helpful when it came to applying for uni. They helped me prepare for university in several ways, including giving me suggestions in my personal tutor sessions of which universities I should look at, providing me with feedback on assignments to progress to a university standard, and encouraging me to become a student representative to complement my personal statement for my application.
“I still use the skills and knowledge I learnt at North Hertfordshire College in my studies for my degree. Content such as anatomy, physiology, and psychology are areas that I’m now studying in even more detail and my learning from college has helped. The skills such as time-management, confidence, critical writing, and referencing are all useful in preparing for assignments, too.
“One of my highlights was definitely our trip to the velodrome. It was such a great experience and so much fun to take part in. Being able to partake in a Level 1 Dodgeball course through the College was another one of my highlights, which inspired me to take my gymnastics coaching qualification outside of college. This is now something that I work in alongside my university course, and I’m glad I had that experience.
“I’d love to say a big thank you to Chris, George, and Morgan who encouraged me to study at university – I wouldn’t be at the University of Bath without their knowledge and support. You truly have helped me be the student I am today. Thank you for everything!
“If you’re thinking of applying to North Hertfordshire College for a Sports, Coaching & Exercise Science course, I’d say enjoy it! It’s a fun two years that goes so quickly. I’d also say to stay on top of assignments and revision throughout the years, as the assessments come around fast!”
