Case Study – Ellie Mae’s journey from Supported Studies to Motor Vehicle course

Published on March 6, 2026

At North Hertfordshire College, we’re proud to support our students to develop their skills and expertise – like Ellie Mae.

Ellie Mae is currently studying on our Entry Motor Vehicle course, having successfully progressed from our Supported Studies programme into this vocational course.

The Additional Learning Support team have described Ellie Mae as an exemplary and highly dedicated student who has truly thrived on the Motor Vehicle course. Alongside her motor vehicle studies, she’s also working extremely hard in maths and English, consistently pushing herself by fully engaging in lessons and completing all tasks to a high standard.

Ellie Mae’s hard work and dedication have been noticed by staff and clearly demonstrates her interest in becoming a mechanic. Staff have observed Ellie supporting her classmates through informal peer teaching, noting her positive outlook and willingness to help others.

Sarah Pond, one of North Hertfordshire College’s Inclusion Assistants, told us: “Ellie is brilliant. She’s really easy-going; she knows her stuff as her dad is an MOT tester which has inspired her to enter the industry.  I remember at the taster session she wowed me with her creativity and completed the task in record time!”

Annabel Taylor, another member of NHC’s Additional Learning Support team added: “She’s such a team player and always willing to help others.  If anyone is struggling, she’ll always happily help them.”

After a positive and successful transition from Supported Studies to cross-college education Ellie is thriving and we wish her every success in her future studies and career.
