Meet Callum McBride, one of NHC’s Creative Industries students! Callum has completed his Level 2 and 3 qualifications at NHC and his now coming to the end of his Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media and Production Technology. We caught up with him to find out more about his NHC experience and what he’s going to be doing next with his qualifications and which celebrities he met on his course:
What’s been the most interesting part of your courses at NHC?
“The most interesting part of studying with the College has been the final major projects. Throughout my courses, I have been encouraged to make my own decisions, provided I could justify them within the structured course framework. This framework was crucial, offering a clear roadmap for the creative work which I was able to utilise. Thanks to this guidance from the UAL framework and my NHC tutor, I had the opportunity to interview Rob Birch from the Stereo MC’s and Michael Bradley from The Undertones as part of my studies.”
Looking back at your work experience projects, which ones particularly stand out?
“As part of my course, I created a video for the managing director of TheHow2Hub, Doug Trim, about insight days and work. I’ve also collaborated with the British Schools Museum in Hitchin to create a promotional video which communicates the museum’s history. I enjoyed both of these experiences as they tied in with my interest in making factual productions.”
If you could speak to someone that’s thinking of studying at NHC, what would you say to them?
“The media course teachers I’ve had during my time at North Hertfordshire College have been very supportive. There are many practical elements and group-work opportunities, too, especially in my Creative Media course. NHC is most definitely a fantastic place to study, as you can develop your professional, creative, and personal skills throughout your journey.”
What are your next steps once you finish your extended diploma?
“My primary objective is to continue learning and advancing in my chosen field. I’ve received offers from both the University of Hertfordshire and Anglia Ruskin University to study Film and Television. I’m also currently awaiting a response for the BBC Level Production apprenticeship, as I’ve made it to the final stage.
“In five years’ time, I hope to be working in the media production realm, particularly within television or film with a focus on factual content like documentaries. I also aspire to maintain my creative endeavours and continue honing my skills to improve my practice.”
