As part of their learning outside of the classroom, our Level 2 Hairdressing and Hair and Media Makeup students recently completed some online training with Cantu, an award-winning haircare company. Through this training, our students now have an improved understanding of how to care for Black and Mixed-Heritage hair.
Cantu are specialists in textured haircare, providing both training opportunities for hair professionals as well as commercial products. Our staff and students took part in the online Textured Hair Pro-Training Initiative session, delivered by Dionne Smith (a Natural Hair Educator at Cantu). During the session, our trainee hairdressers learnt more about how to care for textured hair and how to complete a variety of hairstyles.
This training forms part of a national initiative for all hairdressers and trainees to have a greater understanding of diverse hair types and textures.
Training sessions and learning opportunities like these open doors for our students to pick up skills that they may not have come across otherwise. Jodie-Leigh Boston, one of our Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing students, said: “the Cantu training gave us a better understanding of how to manage and control afro hair. We learned about different hair types and curl patterns, and we were shown how to correctly handle the hair as well as some styles that we can recreate. This training was great as it gave us a chance to develop skills that we may not have had the chance to learn.”
We’re really proud of our Hair and Beauty department for the time and effort they put into extra training sessions. From forming strong employer connections with Bannatyne and Champneys spa to training at the Eve Taylor head offices, our Hair and Beauty team go the extra mile to make sure that our students learn a broad variety of skills, ready for the next step in their career.
