CASE STUDY: RESOURCEFULNESS LEADS TO DEGREE

Published on July 13, 2022

When Jenny Roberts started her Level 3 Business course at North Hertfordshire College, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do beyond working in the business sector. Fast-forward to the end of her course, and Jenny is now preparing to start a degree in Human Resources and Business Management after finding a passion for the sector!

Find out more about Jenny’s NHC journey below:

Why did you decide to study Business at North Hertfordshire College?

“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I finished my GCSEs. I saw the Business programme at NHC advertised, and it really appealed to me because of the diverse career paths it opened for my future.”

What was the most interesting part of your course?

“My favourite unit that I studied was Recruitment and Selection, because it helped me to understand what employers and recruiters would be looking for. This was useful not just for understanding the business sector side of things, but also as an applicant – this knowledge helped me get my first part-time job, which was amazing!”

What was the most surprising thing about studying at NHC?

“I was surprised by how much industry experience all of my tutors had. This was important to me, because it meant that my tutors could provide real-life examples to the topics they were teaching. It helped make everything so much more interesting and engaging, having that real example to relate to.”

What are you next steps after you finish your course?

“I’m off to the University of Hertfordshire in September to study Human Resources and Business Management. My NHC course has helped me in this journey, because the course gave me access to a variety of units and ensured I learnt lots of different things. It’s also helped me to narrow down my interests, helping me choose HR as the direction I want my career to go in.

“In five years’ time, I hope to have successfully completed my degree and be working in HR for a popular company.”

If you could say anything to someone that is thinking about studying at NHC, what would you say?

“I would tell them that the College is a friendly environment and the tutors are all lovely. It’s also a good option for someone that prefers coursework to exams; my programme didn’t have that many exams, so it played to my strengths because I’m stronger at assignment writing.”
