Our Level 1 and 2 Beauty Therapy learners were recently visited by Ometa, Assistant Spa Manager at Bannatyne’s Spa.
Ometa delivered an informative presentation discussing the expectations around personal presentation, technical skills, and standards expected when working for a spa – reinforcing the expectations of learners when working in our student-run salon, The Retreat. Learners then explored Ometa’s own career journey, discussing her progression from a Beauty Therapist to Senior Therapist, up to the Assistant Spa Manager role she’s in now. Ometa outlined the staff benefits and training opportunities available to her while working for Bannatyne’s.
Ometa then explored the variety of work experience opportunities available at Bannatyne’s Spa. Placements with real-employers, like Bannatyne’s, provide our learners with the chance to learn new treatments and techniques, whilst gaining real-life experience working in a beauty industry environment.
Jamila, currently completing her Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification at NHC, is testament to the incredible impact work experience placements can have. While undertaking her Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification last year, Jamila completed a work experience placement at Bannatyne’s Spa. After impressing Bannatyne’s with her professional techniques and high-standard of customer service, Jamila has recently been offered a permanent part-time role as a Beauty Therapist with the spa – the perfect part-time role to compliment her Level 3 studies.
Ali, Beauty Therapy tutor at North Hertfordshire College, commented: “Jamila has made great progress since joining Level 3 in September. Jamila has grown enormously in confidence since she started with us at Level 1 and has passed all seven targets to date with flying colours. She’s already completed her Work Experience hours for this year, at Beauty Within Salon in Stevenage Old Town, having added another layer of industry experience and opportunities to her CV.
“Jamila was delighted to have been offered permanent employment at Bannatyne’s Spa, which will really compliment her level 3 studies. I was only too happy to provide her with a reference and Jamila is well underway to a flying career in Beauty Therapy.”
Jamila, NHC Level 3 Beauty Therapy learner and a new part-time Beauty Therapist at Bannatyne’s Spa added: “I am so pleased with my new role at Bannatyne’s Spa. When I started my Level 1 Beauty Therapy course, I had no idea that within two years I’d be working as a Beauty Therapist already! Through working in the student-run salon, I developed key beauty therapy techniques but also built a deep understanding of the customer service skills needed to make clients feel comfortable.
“My work experience placements at Beauty Within and Bannatyne’s were a fantastic way to gain confidence using industry-standard equipment within a real-workplace. I’m so excited to continue gaining experience in my new role as I study towards my Level 3 qualification, I find it compliments my studies really well.
“Thanks to the skills, knowledge, and experience I’ve gained throughout my time at NHC so far, I feel fully prepared to start my new permanent role as a Beauty Therapist.”
Congratulations, Jamila!
