IS THIS FOR ME?

This course is suitable for those who would like to progress from a Level 2 Counselling qualification and wish to increase their knowledge and training in order to take the next step towards becoming a qualified counsellor.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

There are several learning outcomes and topics that will be taught in a variety of ways including lectures, small group activities, whole group discussions, individual reflective writing, DVD’s, exploration via the creative arts and small group skills practice.

  • Applying an ethical framework to a counselling skills session
  • Boundaries and the therapeutic frame
  • Understanding of difference, your own prejudices and blocks to empathy
  • Staying focused on your client’s issues and concerns using active listening to stay within their frame of reference
  • The structure of your personality, patterns of relating and personal history
  • Counselling theory and common mental health problems
  • A deeper understanding of theory: Humanistic, Psychodynamic and CBT
  • The role of supervision and will engage in group supervision

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be 19 years or older and hold a CPCAB Level 2 Counselling Skills Certificate or its equivalent. They must also have the ability to benefit from self-development, the ability to form a counselling relationship, be emotionally stable, be aware of difference and diversity, and be motivated towards developing as a counselling practitioner. All students are required to undertake a minimum of 6 hours therapy.

Future Study

Having successfully completed the course. learners can progress onto a level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling, a two-year, part-time, professional course where learners are in supervised practice for 100 hours, counselling clients 1-2-1. and become student members of BACP (The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).
