At North Hertfordshire College, we’re proud to inspire our students with a variety of guest speakers throughout their time with us. We recently had the pleasure of welcoming previous student Shannon Davies back to talk to our current cohort of Health & Social Care students about her journey since college.
Former BTEC student Shannon Davies, now in her second year studying Midwifery at the University of Hertfordshire, returned alongside her colleague, Debbie Chapman, to share their experiences and knowledge.
As a former NHC student herself, Shannon is passionate about supporting current students and helping them progress in their own journeys. Together, she and Debbie spoke about what it’s like to study midwifery at university, covering a range of topics including course content, application processes, and what to expect during interviews.
Students also gained valuable insights into day-to-day university life and the support systems available to them. The session explored different progression routes and career pathways, with a particular focus on midwifery. While several learners are already considering applying for midwifery courses, the information shared was beneficial to all students, even those exploring a different path.
It was fantastic to see our T Level Health learners engaging with alumni and gaining first-hand knowledge from someone who has successfully progressed in the field.
As a college, we actively encourage the sharing of experiences and peer learning. Opportunities like this play a vital role in helping our learners develop a clearer understanding of their future options, building their confidence as they prepare to take their next steps towards their chosen careers.

She really made all the information that she was sharing with the learners come to life, as she could explain how much support you get at university and all the different assessments she has completed so far.
