Support Coach (Fixed Term, Secondment opportunity)

SALARY: Up to £24,000 per annum (please note, for part time roles, the salary will be pro-rata’d)

JOB TYPE: Fixed Term, Term time only contract to end June 2023

HOURS: 37 hours per week

LOCATION: Hitchin

This role can be as secondment opportunity for internal staff fixed term until end June 2023.

JOB PURPOSE:

This dual role has two main responsibilities; support coach for our students in Hitchin and a 1:1 support for a student with a medical condition

Support coach: working alongside our current support coach, you will support our Hitchin students through 1:1s, and group sessions. Through a multi-agency approach, you will understand the needs of students across campus and ensure that our students access tailored support and key activities they need to be successful.

1:1 support: we currently have a student who, due to a medical condition, needs time out of class. You will provide daily support when required to sit and monitor them before supporting them to return to class. This part of the role will take priority as you will need to respond as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Motivated, driven and committed to consistently achieving KPI targets.
  • Effective management of time and diary
  • Excellent communication skills including experience of working with the 16-19 age group
  • Professional ‘can do’ approach to working with a variety of staff and employers

Desirable

  • Experience of supporting 16-19 age group and an understanding of care leavers
  • Teaching qualification/PGCE/DET
  • Relevant qualifications in mental health such as Educational Mental Health Practitioner/Mental health first aider
  • Experience of working in mental health in an educational setting

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1:1 support

  • Establish relationships with student, their family and curriculum area to ensure you understand needs and how to respond
  • Provide discreet support as required to ensure student feels well supported
  • Monitor the wellbeing of the student and report any concerns to Head of curriculum and/or Health and Safety manager

Support Coach

  • Working alongside support team to be a point of contact for all students in Hitchin
  • To maintain accurate records of all student interventions in accordance with departmental procedures
  • Attend curriculum meetings to understand support needs
  • Working with external partners to establish wider specialist support as required
  • Support the finance officer where appropriate to award student bursary, learner support fund and free college meals
