SALARY: £17,400 (FTE £20,000)

JOB TYPE: Full time, permanent – job share may be considered for the right candidate(s)

LOCATION: Hitchin

 

JOB PURPOSE:

You will:

  • Support the teaching areas in ensuring that classes and equipment are ready in the practical areas and the stock has been correctly issued and returned
  • Stock management and rotation and responsibility for supporting the Food Safety practices across the department
  • Ordering and checking in of deliveries
  • Working with the tutors ensuring that the practical areas are ready for sessions including cleaning and laundry
  • Undertake reception duties to include, answering telephone calls, dealing with bookings and supporting staff and students.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Level 2 qualification in literacy (or equivalent)
  • Level 2 qualification in numeracy (or equaivalent)
  • A good general education at level 2 e.g. GCSE’s, NVQ etc

Desired

  • Level 2 qualification in a related area e.g. Catering, business, retail, hairdressing, beauty therapy etc
  • Level 2 Food Safety Training
  • Assessor qualification

 

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate (including excel)

Desired

  • Understanding of basic principles of finance e.g. profit/loss

 

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge and experience of Hospitality and Catering
  • Knowing of Food Safety practices including SFBB and HAACAP
  • Some knowledge and experience of stock control
  • Experience of purchasing processes

Desired

  • Experience of computer stock control systems
  • Knowledge of health and safety producres
  • Range of knowledge of products and supplies
  • Understanding of updated legislation such as Natasha’s Law

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deal effectively with staff and learners on a daily basis and advise on availability of services
  • Ensure that sufficient stock is available across all of the Catering outlets
  • Manage and maintain a stock control system that ensures that products are effectively replenished.
  • Undertake stocktaking at appropriate points and at the end of the college financial/academic year.
  • Managing and organising the Restaurant Diary and Hub bookings, including group bookings and special events including Christmas
  • Dealing with maintenance requests and liaising with Estates, HoD and DHoD of department regarding problems and issues with equipment and services
  • Stock control and goods ordering using the college finance system
  • Receiving and checking in and safe storage of all deliveries following correct safe practices
  • Liaising with all tutors regarding teaching requests for ingredients, products and equipment in a timely manner and preparation of these materials for classes and
  • Working with the rest of the team to ensure that all marketing material is distributed both internally and externally
  • Working alongside the HoD & DHoD ensuring that all Environmental Health paperwork is completed and updated regularly
  • Liaising with all suppliers regarding deliveries, supplies and prices, and meeting with reps where applicable
  • Reporting to HoD and DHoD regarding monthly expenditure, and cost changes
  • To support with the Hospitality & Catering income from sales, deposits and other income, and to ensure that it gets correctly paid in and recorded
  • To manage the floats correctly for sales and the restaurant where applicable
  • Support in the running of the kitchens whenever required, including laundry, day to day cleaning duties and using the dishwasher during meal service
  • Assisting the tutors when required during practical teaching sessions including working with students
  • Cleaning, organisation and re-stocking of dry storage area and fridges and freezers
  • Help in the liaising with central support staff eg Estates, IT, Marketing etc
  • Help maintain the professional image of the Hospitality & Catering areas at all times.
  • Ensure that stocks are kept secure at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times an in accordance with the college and curriculum area policy.
  • Notify line manager or appropriate manager of any risks or concerns about health and safety.
  • Checks to ensure that all equipment is in working order and contacting the appropriate company when repairs are required.
  • Have a commitment to own development through effective use of the college’s professional development and staff development scheme.
  • Maintain efficient administration systems where required.
  • To carry out tasks when necessary in other areas of the Department when required such as Hair & Beauty & the Hub
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably requested by the line manager, or any more senior manager or Director
  • To comply with health and safety procedures
