Hair and Beauty Technician (Term time only)

SALARY: £17.4K (FTE £20K)

JOB TYPE: Term time only

HOURS: 20 hours per week for 39 weeks

LOCATION: Hitchin

JOB PURPOSE:

You will

  • Be responsible for dispensing products and small equipment for class and/or salon use.
  • Maintain and manage sufficient stocks of materials, products and equipment and to ensure that this is available as and when required.
  • Undertake reception duties to include, answering telephone calls, dealing with clients, booking appointments and supporting staff and students.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

  • Level 2 qualification in literacy (or equivalent)
  • Level 2 qualification in numeracy (or equivalent)
  • A good general education at level 2 e.g. GCSEs, NVQ etc
  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate (including excel)
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office applications
  • Basic knowledge of hairdressing, beauty or holistic therapies
  • Some knowledge and experience of stock control
  • Experience of purchasing processes
  • Team player
  • Ability to relate to young people
  • Flexible working practices
  • Professional and approachable with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload
  • An eye for detail
  • Proven skill in showing initiative and being pro-active

 

Desirable:

  • Level qualification in a related area e.g. business, retail, hairdressing, beauty therapy etc
  • Assessor qualification
  • Understanding of basic principles of finance e.g. profit/loss
  • Experience of computer stock control systems
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of a range of hair and beauty products and treatments
  • Full driving license and access to a car

 

 

 

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deal effectively with staff and learners on a daily basis and advise on availability of products.
  • Ensure that sufficient stock is available.
  • Manage and maintain a stock control system that ensures that products and materials are constantly replenished.
  • Ensure that stock is dispensed resourcefully.
  • Undertake stocktaking at appropriate points and at the end of the college financial/academic year.
  • Maintain the professional image of the dispensary and reception area at all times.
  • Ensure that the dispensary area is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • To assist in the hair and beauty reception area. Support students with assessment of reception duties.
  • Ensure that stocks are kept secure at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times an in accordance with the college and curriculum area policy.
  • Notify line manager or appropriate manager of any risks or concerns about health and safety.
  • Checks to ensure that all equipment is in working order and contacts the appropriate company when repairs are required.
  • Have a commitment to own development through effective use of the college’s professional development and staff development scheme.
  • Maintain efficient administration systems where required.
  • Carries out tasks when necessary in other areas of the Academy when required
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably requested by the line manager, or any more senior manager or Director
  • To comply with health and safety procedures
  • To be aware of the College’s Equality and Diversity Policy and targets, and to promote equality of opportunity
  • To ensure adherence with Risk Management Policy, notifying the line manager or appropriate manager of any risks
