The Applications Support Analyst should share the Hart Learning Groups passion for the role that education can play in transforming lives and businesses.

The Applications Support Analyst will provide technical support for the key applications used in the Hart Learning Group including development, support, ongoing maintenance and administration of all databases and database servers.

To undertake system development of the main IT applications used by the Group, including; Unit-e, Integra, SharePoint, Office 365 and project work.

To identify ways to maximise the potential of the applications used by the Hart Learning Group and to achieve integration between these.

  • Minimum three years commercial experience providing Application Support
  • Minimum two years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role.
  • Minimum one years of experience with SharePoint, and Office 365 design, implementation and support.
  • Experience of MS Data Protection Manager backups restores and recovery models.
  • BSc or HND or equivalent in a computer related discipline or relevant experience that demonstrates the post holder to be of a skill level equivalent to this role.
  • Experience of managing projects using recognised methodologies such as PRINCE2.
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and associated technologies
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact confidently with technical and non-technical users
  • Experience with Internet Information Services (IIS), WordPress and general webserver related technologies. (e.g. HTML, JavaScript, CSS etc.).
  • Experience of performing a similar role in an educational organisation is desirable.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.
  • Use of a car for travelling between sites is essential for this role






  • To be responsible for 3rd line application support and continuous improvement of existing systems.
  • Develop and manage back-up and recovery plans for services, files and databases across the Group.
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are in place and functioning correctly.
  • Configure and maintain SQL database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • To maintain software applications and associated databases of all key systems used within the Group by extracting, cleansing, transforming, loading and maintaining data and the modification and configuration of the front-end applications.
  • Produce ad-hoc queries and develop reports to support business needs using a range of tools including SQL developer, SSRS, Crystal Reports and Business Objects.
  • To liaise with external suppliers in the implementation and on-going support of core applications including hosting of hardware where appropriate.
  • Testing of developed solutions and the creation and maintenance of technical documentation.
  • Review and implement upgrades and fixes available from system software suppliers. Assist in carrying out full impact analysis of new software releases and recommend upgrade plans.
  • Work with other members of the IT team to deliver changes to systems, including training and user documentation.
  • To provide advice, guidance and support on the full range of IT matters relating to the supported applications in use within the Company.
  • Ensure that requests for support are properly logged, assigned and responded to in a timely manner and according to agreed standards and procedures.
  • Occasionally cover for the Service Desk Technicians
  • Advise management of significant developments about existing and emerging system software.
  • Deputise for the Head of Application Support when required
