Senior barbers Ross Nimmo and Tom Marjoram from Society Barbering delivered a ‘Welcome to Industry’ talk and workshop with the Level 2 Barbering students.
During the session, Ross and Tom provided demos on different style techniques, such as clipper over comb, to help learners develop their skills. Our students were also given the chance to ask questions about real life scenarios related to barbering and were inspired by the depth of knowledge and expertise.
Lisa Cook, Level 2 Barbering tutor, who organised the session said: “The students loved the experience and were all asking to be placed with Society Barbering for their work experience.
“We observed a new innovative method on how to get the students to use only their thumbs for cutting which will definitely be added to our teaching of techniques.”
North Hertfordshire College’s growing partnership with Society Barbering has resulted in six work-experience placements for students. Through the barbershop’s support, learners will gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the industry, including how local salons play a key role in community engagement and business collaboration.
It’s sessions like this that help our students think about their future careers and what they need to do to get there. We’re incredibly grateful to Society Barbering and our other employer partners for taking the time to share their skills and experience with the next generation of talent.
