Have you ever seen a tweet from North Hertfordshire College, an Instagram advert for our open events, or an apprenticeship advert from Hart Learning & Development in the Comet? It’s highly likely that Danyal Sarfraz, one of our Marketing Executives here at North Hertfordshire College, was involved in its creation!
Danyal is the friendly face behind NHC and HLD’s social media platforms and plays a key role in promoting our courses and learning opportunities across digital channels. Find out more about what it’s like to work in marketing and why Danyal enjoys working with NHC in his interview below:
What inspired you to pursue a career in marketing?
“I’ve always been interested in the behind-the-scenes of advertising. Whether it was a billboard or an advert on TV, I found the process of what it takes to create the final product to be fascinating. After studying a marketing module at university, I realised I could turn my interests into a career.
“I also have a photography hobby and use social media to share my work and knew that working in marketing would go hand-in-hand with what I like doing.”
What did you do before you joined North Hertfordshire College?
“I studied for a Business Management degree at Middlesex University, and also worked part-time as a Marketing Assistant for a local charity. As a Marketing Assistant, I was involved with producing digital graphics and creating content for a variety of events and campaigns. This was all really useful experience, and I’ve been able to use it in my work with NHC.”
What do you enjoy the most about working with NHC?
“I love working with my team the most because, for me, it’s the people you work with that make you appreciate your job. When work doesn’t feel like work, when you’re having fun with what you’re doing, that’s the best feeling you can have. That’s why I enjoy coming to work every day.”
What has been a highlight of your time at NHC?
“It’s always a highlight for me to see the work I’ve contributed to come to life. There’s something special about seeing an NHC, Hart Learning & Development, or STEM Discovery Centre ad in real life in any format, whether that’s a magazine, a digital ad, or a bus stop poster… that’s always really satisfying.
“This year is also satisfying, as our new NHC marketing campaign is something that I’ve had a larger creative role in. I’m looking forward to seeing that come to life over our upcoming open events and ads.”
If you could give one piece of advice to someone who is thinking of joining NHC, what would it be?
“Starting a career in a new place can feel very nerve-wracking at first – I’ve been there too! But you don’t have to worry.
“I remember that after my first week, I took a big sigh of relief because I realised it was the best decision to start my first graduate job at the College. I’ve been working at the College for three years now and still enjoy coming in every day.”
