What you need to know

IS THIS FOR ME?

If you need to refresh, upgrade or gain your first maths qualification for employment or supporting your children’s maths school work then you can work towards the nationally recognised Functional Skills qualification in Maths.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

There are five levels of qualifications within the Functional Maths Curriculum:

  • Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3
  • Level 1 (Equivalent of a GCSE grade D to G or Level 1 – 3)
  • Level 2 (Equivalent of a GCSE grade A to C or Level 4 – 9)

Applicants will be offered a confidential interview with a member of the team to assess their current maths level and discuss their options.

Learners will need to attend a 3 hour session once a week. They’ll begin working at a suitable level on the following topics:

  • Whole numbers
  • Fractions
  • Decimals
  • Percentages(Entry 3 – Level 2)
  • Measurements of length, weight, capacity, time, temperature and money
  • Reading and displaying data as lists, tables, graphs and charts
  • Comparing data using averages and range and probability (Level 1 and 2 only)

We have a number of functional maths courses starting throughout the academic year. Your start date and course duration will be dependant on the results of your initial assessment, as we will assign a bespoke programme to meet your needs.

Entry Requirements

All learners will have an interview to assess their current maths level and agree on a suitable level of course to study.

Future Study

Successful achievement of a qualification can lead to a GCSE maths course (if Level 2 is reached), a vocational college course or improved skills for employment.
