If you are currently teaching in the post-16 sector and want to gain a full teaching qualification, this is the route for you.

This qualification has been developed to enable those working or intending to work in the Further Education and Skills sector (FES) to gain a full teaching qualification by meeting the occupational standards developed and approved by employer representatives and other stakeholders across the FES sector.

This qualification covers all aspects of teaching in the Further Education and Skills (FES) sector and maps fully to the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher occupational standard.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The qualification is made up of eight core level 5 units:

Teachers and teaching
Professional practice
Effective digital and online pedagogies

Coaching and mentoring
Managing behaviour

You will be assessed through written assignments, observations of practice, a portfolio of professional practice and Viva.

Entry Requirements

All candidates must:

Undergo an initial assessment designed to determine whether a level 5 qualification is appropriate and achievable
Hold a qualification that confirms a minimum of Level 2 in maths and English
Have access to 150 teaching practice hours
Have access to two placements and a total of 250 hours of practice.

Candidates must also hold a qualification in the subject they wish to teach/are teaching:

For academic subjects, it is expected that teachers will hold a degree in their subject specialism
For vocational subjects, it is expected that a teacher should be qualified to at least one level above the level they intend to teach.
Where this is not possible because such qualifications do not exist, teachers should ave the highest qualification available and/or be able to provide evidence of substantial professional experience in their vocational subject.
