Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths, English and science or, a level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area passed with merit or distinction with maths and English at grade 9-4 (or Functional Skills level 2 or above). You will also be invited to attend an interview.

Future Study and Careers

At the end of this course, you will be able to apply for degree-level study at university.

Courses include sport science, sport psychology, sports therapy and sports rehab, as well as strength and conditioning.

Careers include leisure or sports manager, sports player, sports coach and fitness instructor.

This course is for you if you are interested in examining key concepts related to the science of sport.

As sport and exercise scientists are a growing presence in the world of sport, their influence in sport looks set to increase and so the demand for these roles is likely to grow.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN

You will access inspirational teaching sessions to help you understand important topics in the industry. You will complete the following mandatory units:

  • Sport and Exercise Physiology
  • Functional Anatomy
  • Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing
  • Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Coaching for Performance and 
  • Fitness Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Performance

You will have the choice to complete the following optional units:

  • Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Specialised Fitness Training
  • Research Project in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Physical Activity for Individual and Group-based Exercise
  • Sports Massage
  • Sociocultural Issues in Sport and Exercise
  • Technology in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Sports Injury and Assessment

You will develop your skills and confidence in delivering presentations, academic writing, working with others and problem-solving.

As part of this qualification, you will be required to undertake 330hrs of Work Experience to help prepare you for the industry. You will work closely with our Work Placement Coordinators who will support you to find meaningful and relevant placements to your future career aspirations; placements have previously included:
