Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, plus a grade 3 in maths (you will need to work towards grade 4 alongside your vocational qualification) or a level 2 qualification in Beauty therapy, media make-up or hairdressing.

You must demonstrate a keen interest in the industry and will be required to attend an interview and obtain a positive school reference.

At interview you will need to produce a makeup and hair portfolio demonstrating interest and practical ability.

Future Study and Careers

Level 4 theatrical makeup courses, specialist industry courses in advanced techniques, level 2 hairdressing and barbering.

Careers include roles within the makeup industry, freelance makeup opportunities, media and theatre.

IS THIS FOR ME?

This course is for you if you have a passion for the makeup, hair and media industry and want to explore potential careers.

It is designed as a progression from the level 2 diploma in hair and media makeup, level 2 or 3 beauty therapy or hairdressing, or for a mature learner with relevant industry knowledge or related experience.

You will develop the essential practical skills to become a fully qualified makeup artist, and explore how you create a successful business, while benefiting from real-life experiences to prepare you for the workplace.

You will perform the latest makeup techniques, while taking into account the artist and directors’ needs. This will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to be successful in this fast-paced industry.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN

You will develop the skills required to manage your own business and update your knowledge and skills to comply with the latest industry standards for workplace practices.

You will develop existing skills and learn new techniques in airbrush, camouflage and media makeup, styling and fit postiche, applying prosthetic pieces, face and body art, fashion and photographic makeup techniques, creating an image based on a theme, health and safety and client care.

You will complete work experience and access invaluable employment opportunities allowing you to get a real insight into the industry.

Please note: There will be an additional cost for hairdressing uniform and kit at approx £500. The course tutor will be able to provide you with further advice and guidance about this.
