Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English or a level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area passed with merit or distinction with maths and English at grade 9-4 (or Functional Skills level 2 or above).
You will also need to produce a strong portfolio of work which you will need to discuss at your interview.
Future Study and Careers
You will be able to progress to higher level courses, which includes the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, a degree course, an apprenticeship or paid employment.
Careers include building or civil engineering technician, architectural or town planning technician, graphic designer, draughtsperson and printing machine assistant.
This two-year course is for you if you are creative and enthusiastic about Graphic Design and visual communication and want to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to build your future as a graphic designer.
This stimulating and demanding course will support you to progress to higher education, training or apprenticeships in the creative sector.
On this course you will study on the UAL (University of Arts London) Level 3 Diploma in your first year. On successful completion of the Diploma you can then progress to UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in your second year.
This is a focused and practical course that enables you to access vibrant hands-on teaching sessions and to work on a range of experimental and industry-related project briefs.
You will also work with employers and the local community on individual projects. Throughout the course you will receive specialist advice and tutorials to support you in building a portfolio of work for university, apprenticeships and job interviews.
You will develop and test your creativity by exploring a wide range of 2D, 3D and lens-based skills and techniques in the area of Graphics, such as drawing, typography, layout, packaging, motion graphics, illustration, branding and photography.
You will learn to work both by hand and using specialist computer software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design and After Effects.
You will gain an understanding of graphics visual language, research, contextual approaches and the design process, therefore enabling you to develop creative ideas and produce creative outcomes for a portfolio of work.
This course will also enable you to develop and utilise transferable skills that will benefit you in other areas of your personal and professional life, such as initiative, problem-solving, reflective learning, environmental awareness, time-management and communication.
In year 2, you will enter the Royal Opera House Design Challenge competition in the branding and marketing category. The college is a flagship centre for the Design Challenge and previous winners have had their work exhibited at the V&A and gained work experience at the Royal Opera House.
