Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including maths and English or a level 1 qualification with maths and English at grade 3 or above (or Functional Skills level 1 or above). You will also be invited to attend an interview and provide a reference.
Future Study and Careers
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and other relevant level 3 courses.
Careers include a leisure centre operative or sports coach.
You will look in detail at the different sectors of the sport and active leisure industry. Including sports management, sports coaching, and some sport science elements.
Your course will be a mix of classroom-based theory sessions, practical sessions, project work with employers, and work experience.
You will work with employers including Pure Gym, The Hertfordshire FA and local schools. Students have previously gone on several off-site educational visits to experience the organisation and management of sport facilities, as well as experience a tour of the Olympic Park.
Topics you will cover include anatomy & physiology, the mind and sport performer, performance profiling, healthy and active lifestyles, and training for personal fitness.
You will hone relevant workplace skills such as coaching skills for leading sports activities and running a sports event. You will also develop your knowledge on the human body looking in detail at anatomy & physiology, as well as the sport performer in action.
You will also complete maths and English qualifications to grade 4 if you haven’t got them already as they are essential in this industry.
