IS THIS FOR ME?

This course is for you if you want to develop a deeper understanding of the different parts of this exciting and growing sector and to explore potential careers.

You will look in detail at different aspects of the public services including citizenship, and crime and its effects on society and be able to provide your opinions on key topical issues.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN

Your course will be a mix of classroom-based theory sessions, practical sessions and work experience. You will be predominantly assessed through a variety of coursework opportunities ranging from essays, group presentations, or posters. For two units you will sit an exam which will test your knowledge on the key components associated with that unit.

On this one year Level 2 Public Services course you’ll develop your knowledge on the role of the public services, the required working skills, as well as developing an understanding of society and the public services. You’ll receive insightful talks from Herts Police, the British Army, the Royal Marines and Navy, RAF, Paramedics and Border Force Officers to help give you all the information you need to make an informed decision about your next steps.

In the past our students have also had the opportunity to participate in some exciting enrichment activities such as a trip to Luton Airport to gain an insight as a Border Force Officer, visits to Fairlands Valley to conduct team building activities, trips to Hitchin Fire Station to take part in their Fitness Tests and a 24-hour Survival day to develop expedition skills.

As part of your qualification you will be required to complete a Work Experience Placement which will provide you with a real and meaningful insight into the industry.

You will also complete maths & English qualifications to grade 4 if you haven’t got them already as they are essential in this sector.
