Entry Requirements
You will need a level 1 qualification in a relevant subject area or equivalent industry skills and experience, as well as showing how you have developed your maths and English skills.
You will also be invited to attend an interview.

This progression course enables you to develop your interest and passion for catering and prepares you for a future career in the kitchen.
You will look in detail at the different elements of professional cookery and develop the skills you learnt at level 1 to further understand key areas including health and safety, food safety, menu planning and costings, healthier foods and special diets.
Your course will mainly consist of practical sessions in the skills and production kitchens, with some classroom-based activities, and you will work with several local employers through the year.
Areas for study include developing your food preparation and cooking skills including meat and poultry, fish and shellfish, fruit and vegetables, bakery and patisserie work including hot and cold desserts and pasta products.
You will hone the relevant workplace skills you have learnt at level 1 and learn how to develop these at a higher-level including problem-solving and planning and developing your competition work.
You will also complete maths and English qualifications to grade 4 if you haven’t got them already as they are essential in this industry.
