Future Study and Careers
Level 2 in either professional cookery or food and beverage service, progression onto an apprenticeship or paid employment in the sector.
This course is ideal for beginners and will give you a great introduction to the diverse hospitality and catering industry.
You will be introduced to industry topics such as food safety in catering, the hospitality industry, preparing and cooking a wide range of different foods, menu planning and healthier diets.
Additional Learning Support is available for this course if required.
Your course will mainly consist of practical sessions in the skills kitchens and Hart Kitchens, our public resturant,with some classroom-based activities, and you will work with several local employers through the year.
Areas for study include the restaurant, preparing and cooking food by boiling poaching and steaming, stewing and braising, baking, roasting and grilling, deep and shallow frying, regeneration and sold food preparation.
You will learn the skills you need for the workplace including customer service, communication, numeracy, organisational skills, team-building and relationship-building.
You will also complete maths and English qualifications if you haven’t got them already as they are essential in this industry.
