Looking for a more hands-on way to study science and launch a career in the sector? NHC’s Laboratory Science pathway is perfect for you.

If you know you want to start a career as a scientist, particularly in a lab-work role, then NHC’s Laboratory Science pathway is a great choice for you. You’ll learn through a combination of classroom theory sessions, hands-on practical laboratory work, and employer placements in the industry as you enhance your knowledge and build your CV.

Key topics covered on this pathway include:

• Health, safety, and environmental regulations and their applications
• Information and data management
• Good scientific and clinical practice
• Scientific ethics and the standards of conduct in professional work
• Using scientific techniques and experimental equipment
• Atomic structures, molecular structures, and bonding

Modules taught on this pathway include:

• Medical science
• Applied science
• Data analytics

In addition to your time in college, you’ll also head out into the science sector and complete a minimum of 350 hours of work placement with one of our employer partners. This is your chance to bring your learning to life and apply your skills to real work scenarios.

We regularly welcome guest speakers into the classroom to share their own experiences and teach you further skills to help you stand out from the crowd when applying for university, apprenticeships, or a job.

Throughout your learning journey, you’ll be assessed through a series of assignments, exams, and an employer-set project which tackles a challenge identified by organisations in the science sector to help you contextualise what you’ve learnt.
