IS THIS FOR ME?

This short introduction to criminology allows you to dip your toes into the world of criminology and criminal psychology on a casual basis. Our short leisure course is perfect for anyone interested in true crime, psychology, and gaining a better understanding of behaviours.

HOW AND WHAT WILLI LEARN?

Criminology is the study of the thoughts and behaviour of criminals. It answers the question of why criminals do what they do. What shapes their personality, is it a case of personality disorders or life experiences?

 

This six-week course will introduce you to the psychological explanations of criminal behaviour, take a look at eyewitness testimony and offender profiling, examine why people make false confessions finishing with a look at famous criminals and what may have caused them to kill.

 

Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to criminal psychology
  • Biological and psychological explanation of criminal behaviour
  • Personality disorders/characteristics
  • Forgetting and reconstructing memory when recalling witness statements
  • The psychological profiles of famous criminals
