What you need to know

IS THIS FOR ME?

This is a beginners course, taught in a fun and relaxed environment. Ideal for those who wish to improve their writing skills on a creative level.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The course will explore practical techniques involved in the craft of writing. You will be encouraged to work in prose, creative non-fiction, poetry or scripts. You will examine how the application of different forms such as genre fiction, plays and screenwriting can impact the creative elements in your writing regardless of your preferred style and you will be encouraged to find different ways of writing and seeing.

The workshop format to our classes creates a safe environment to experiment, critique and create new writing. Each week we will carry out warm-up exercises, critical reading discussions, creative workshopping and you will be provided with a (non-compulsory) weekly writing prompt to encourage and expand your learning beyond the session.

The course objectives are to:

  • Identify writing goals and ways of working to achieve them
  • Give and receive feedback
  • Differentiate the elements required in storytelling
  • Identify the skills of creative writing and reading as a writer
  • Write, write and write some more

Learners should bring pen & paper or alternative notetaking tools.
