Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English or a level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area passed with merit or distinction with maths and English at grade 9-4 (or Functional Skills level 2 or above). You will also be invited to attend an interview.

Future Study and Careers

Degree-level study at university.

Courses include sport studies, sport education, sport psychology, and sport coaching.

Careers include leisure or sports manager, sports player, sports coach and fitness instructor

IS THIS FOR ME?

This course is for you if you are interested in examining key concepts related to this growing industry.

You will look in detail at how the industry works as a business and develop a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology for sport and fitness.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN

You will access inspirational teaching sessions to help you understand important topics in the industry.

You will look at health and wellbeing in sport, sports development, and practical sports application. You will also look at specific careers in the sport and active leisure industry including self-employment. This will be underpinned by developing coaching skills which will help you perfect the essential skills for a successful sporting career.

You will develop workplace skills and confidence in delivering coaching sessions and preparing presentations,

You will work with a range of employers and go on several off-site visits, if it is safe to do so. In the past we have visited the velodrome at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and worked with several football clubs.

Students will also have the opportunity to work closely with local primary schools to deliver sports sessions as part of their qualification.
