WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO JOIN
No previous knowledge required. Basic English written and speaking skills required.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
The course will involve exploring the skills & craft of writing fiction. Throughout the course we will learn about putting these skills into practice by working on a short story, a piece of memoir, a poem, and examining forms such genre fiction, plays and film screenwriting. The emphasis is on having a go and learning by doing. There isn’t a writer in the world who can’t improve their work by rewriting in the light of feedback and knowledge gained, and this course will give you plenty of opportunities to better understand and implement the skills necessary for successful storytelling.

- Give and receive feedback
- Differentiate the elements required in storytelling
- Identify the skills of creative writing
- Write a short story, a piece of non-fiction memoir, and a poem
HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED
No formal assessment. Observation, discussion and tutor feedback.

- Pen & paper or alternative notetaking tools

ABOUT THE TUTOR
Ruth Wade has been a full-time writer for over 20 years. For 14 of those she has been teaching the skills and craft of creative writing. She is also an accredited creativity coach. As a novelist she specialises in historical fiction and writes both under her own name and that of BK Duncan. She was a finalist in The People’s Book Prize 2016 and shortlisted for the Beryl Bainbridge First Time Author Award. You can find out more about her here: www.ruthwade.com
