Recently, Laura, Rosetta, and Ioana from contracting company, PiLON, visited North Hertfordshire College’s Engineering and Construction campus to deliver a CV and interview prep workshop.
Electrical, Plumbing, and Bricklaying learners enjoyed a presentation from Ioana and Rosetta about how best to prepare for their next steps after college.
Our students were also encouraged to reflect on the activities they are already completing in their day-to-day lives, like volunteering or babysitting for example. The PiLON team helped our learners realise how these everyday-life skills can be mapped to real, transferable skills to be added to their CVs and discussed in future interviews.
Our guests from PiLON motivated our learners to understand that they do, in fact, have experience, even if it might not feel like it yet. For example, one of our learners coaches a local football team, and realised that this work demonstrates effective leadership, communication, and organisational skills, making a valuable addition to any job application.

By the end of PiLON’s insightful session, our Construction and Trades learners felt confident in their skills, whether specialised or transferable, and ready to celebrate these on their CVs!
