DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION AND ANIMATION PATHWAY

What you need to know

ABOUT THE PATHWAY

Build your portfolio and your creative skills through NHC’s Digital, Illustration & Animation pathway. You’ll work with experienced tutors to learn more about the creative industries and prepare to start your successful career.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Explore your creativity with NHC’s Digital Illustration & Animation pathway. Your NHC journey will see you complete six projects over this two-year course as you cultivate a broad range of illustration skills.

In your first year, you’ll be introduced to hand-drawn and digital illustration, storyboarding, and animation techniques. You’ll develop your skills and confidence in using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Animate as your portfolio builds. There are even opportunities to learn printmaking, digital photography, and various drawing mediums to broaden your horizons and explore new techniques.

In your second year, you’ll take your existing skills in using the Adobe suite to the next level through working on further design briefs. You’ll have the chance to learn to use After Effects and Blender for projects, start to specialise in your practice, and deepen your skills in a particular area of interest. This includes:

  • Animation
  • Concept art
  • Graphic design
  • Illustration
  • Animation and motion graphics

Throughout the course, you’ll work on externally set work experience projects where you can apply your design skills in a professional context. Previous examples of projects include character design and marketing design briefs for employers including Knebworth House, North Herts Council, and the Royal Opera House.

The portfolio of professional work you’ll create during your studies with North Hertfordshire College will support your future progression. Previous students have gone on to specialise further through a degree programme or by launching their creative career; where will your journey take you?
