The skills our learners develop throughout their time at North Hertfordshire College are designed to help them open doors to a variety of future career pathways. Whether it’s going straight into the sector, taking their knowledge further at university, or becoming an apprentice, our teaching and support teams are here to help you achieve those goals. But don’t just take our word for it – ask Becca!
Becca studied Level 3 Business at North Hertfordshire College, and even completed work experience with our in-house Marketing team during her NHC journey. Now, she’s a Level 3 Content Creator apprentice in Amazing Apprenticeships Projects & Partnerships team. We caught up with Becca to find out more about her career journey so far – check out her thoughts in her interview below:
How did your North Hertfordshire College experience support you in preparing for your apprenticeship?
“At NHC, I was supported by my lecturers and had the opportunity to attend careers events. One example would be the Big Apprenticeship Breakfast, which was hosted by the College in partnership with Amazing Apprenticeships. During this event, I learnt more about the apprenticeship opportunities and businesses offering them in the local area. Experiencing this event as a student has developed my knowledge of my current role of being part of the planning processes of upcoming events.”
Which topics and skills that you learnt at college do you now use in your current role?
“I developed my core skills of communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and various other skills. These were developed through presentations, group projects, and assignments from various units. In particular, I developed my time-keeping and organisational skills by meeting deadlines for assignments, which is a useful skill in my current role as it enables me to meet project requirements and manage my time efficiently.
“My favourite units from my course, which included managing an event, business decision-making, digital marketing, and the English legal system, are all things that I use in my role as a Content Creator.”
“I also did a work experience placement as a Marketing Assistant in the North Hertfordshire College marketing department, which I really enjoyed. It helped me to understand an office environment, which is like the office I work in now. During my placement, I had an insight into writing articles and completing research tasks, which I have developed further in my current role and apprenticeship.”
What would you say to someone who is thinking of studying at NHC?
“Go for it! I loved my time at NHC, it was a great environment, and I made a lovely group of friends while I was there. I really enjoyed the practical aspects of my course such as the group projects, as well as learning about the legal aspects of business and visiting the Old Bailey. The experiences and knowledge I built at NHC have helped me start my career, and I really recommend it.”
