North Hertfordshire College was proud to attend the Generation Stevenage event at Knebworth Barns in May! Organised by Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s skills and employment portal, HOP, the event saw over 800 students and 65 organisations come together to discuss opportunities in the local area.
Tutors from across NHC’s curriculum areas attended the event throughout the day to share information about their subject areas and courses offered. The showcase included live CPR demonstration sessions from our Health & Social Care team; body scans using the latest sports science technology from the NHC Sports Hub; free hand massages from our Beauty Therapy students; and virtual-reality tours of our campuses with our SITEC headsets.
Generation Stevenage attendees also had the opportunity to meet current NHC students to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to study at college, with Level 3 Applied Science students on hand to share their experience.
The atmosphere in the venue was electric, with students and local young people mingling with the local and nationwide employers also in attendance, including Settle, Hertfordshire County Council, Siemens, and Hotel Cromwell. Adrian Hawkins OBE, Chair of Hertfordshire LEP, its Skills and Employment Board, and the Stevenage Development Board, commented: “Stevenage is a town full of ambition and innovation, with globally-significant sector strengths and the home to outstanding businesses, including renowned multinational corporations and a thriving SME community.
“I am delighted that we were able to put on our largest employer exhibition yet in Stevenage, showcasing the fantastic job prospects that the town has to offer. Where job opportunities abound, it is vital that employers have this platform to connect with the next generation of talent to ensure our local residents reap the benefits.”
Melissa Caneppele, Schools and Community Engagement Executive with North Hertfordshire College, commented: “It was great to meet lots of enthusiastic learners who wanted to find out more about our offer of college courses and apprenticeships. There was a real buzz on the day and I’m sure that students went away with lots of information to help them with their future choices.”
Learners left the Generation Stevenage event feeling inspired and motivated for their future careers. They’ll also now be able to make confident decisions about their next steps and prepare the skills they need for success after hearing about the different pathways into their chosen industry.
