Supported Studies
NHC offers an excellent range of foundation courses for school leavers and adults. These courses give students with learning difficulties and disabilities the opportunity to develop independence, gain work and social skills and improve basic skills. Students are helped to progress and to gain confidence through working towards individually set goals.
Courses are based at the Stevenage Centre, Hitchin Centre and at the college’s self contained unit based at The Valley School, Stevenage. In addition, Briar Patch in Letchworth Garden City offers supported housing and teaches students how to live independently.
Students have the opportunity to participate in supported work experience during their time at college where they are helped to gain a wide range of employability skills. Students are carefully matched up with an appropriate placement and offered individually tailored work experience. At the end of their course students progress onto other college courses or move into employment.
Throughout the year there are a wide range of enrichment activities offered which may include trips in the local community, whole day trips, a residential experience and a variety of sporting activities.
The very experienced staff team comprises well qualified teaching and learning support staff, who are all wholly committed to meeting the individual learning needs of all students.
