Summer Scheme 2011

What is the Summer Scheme?

The Summer Scheme runs for 3 weeks for people with
learning difficulties and/or disabilities. It is designed to give parents and carers some respite during the long summer
holidays. It helps participants to interact with others, whilst
taking part in a wide range of fun activities. The scheme is funded by Hertfordshire County Council’s Children, Schools & Families and Health & Community Services, and is run by North Hertfordshire College.

Who is it for?

The Scheme is for anyone over the age of 16 who has a
learning difficulty and/or disability. Primarily, the scheme is for people who have no other activity opportunities over the
summer period.

Where will it be?

The summer scheme will be at either the Hitchin or
Stevenage campus of North Hertfordshire College.

Will transport and or 1:1 personal care support be provided?

Unfortunately, funding for the scheme does not allow us to provide 1:1 medical/personal care for participants or transport to and from Hitchin; therefore they will need to have a certain amount of independence to take part in the programme.

What activities will be on offer?

There will be a wide range of activities on offer. Some of the past activities have included – punting, cinema trips, art and crafts, cookery, farm visits, football and bowling. All activities are fully risk assessed.

What time does the scheme start and finish?

Monday 10:00 – 3:00
Tuesday 10:00 – 3:00
Wednesday 10:00 – 3:00
Thursday 10:00 – 3:00
Friday 10:00 – 3:00

What happens at lunch?

A packed lunch will be needed for each day, unless specified
on the timetable otherwise.

How much will it cost?

A full week’s activities, including drinks, will cost £17:50.
