Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, has joined North Hertfordshire College’s Support Young People campaign by pledging to help young people in the constituency gain the work skills needed for successful employment.

As part of his support, Stephen is recruiting a local student each year, to work part-time in his office for up to a 12-month period as an assistant Caseworker.

NHC business student Kara Duffy has gained valuable work experience this year, working two full days a week at the constituency office in Stevenage, balancing the valuable work experience this gives with completing her studies.

Kara’s role includes including answering the telephone and responding to constituent questions, administration, as well as supporting Stephen McPartland's work as needed.

Kara explained: “I applied for the position because it looked really interesting and would look good on my CV. I’ve learnt what an MP does and I could relate some of my work at college to my experience here. I’m going to university in September to study Business and law, which I’ve always been interested in but working here as made me want to pursue it more.”

Stephen McPartland commented: "I am delighted to be working with NHC to offer young people the opportunity to gain vital work experience alongside their studies. Kara has impressed us all with her enthusiasm and willingness to learn. She is doing a fantastic job and has gained immense confidence from working in the office. I am proud of the contribution Kara has made and she is a first class example of the talent and calibre of NHC students."
