Yet more Flair from College Hairdressing Students
Hairdressing students at North Hertfordshire College (NHC) once again demonstrated an impressive range of creative, artistic and practical skills, when the annual Hair Competition took place at the Centre for the Arts in Hitchin in June.
The competition was open to students at all levels, and they received the added bonus of support from beauty department students, who provided their top-level make-up skills for the hairdressers’ models.
The theme this year was Autumn and the students’ designs were researched and inspired by images from magazines and the Internet. The three categories were judged by professionals from the hairdressing industry - Philip Parkin, Hair By Philip, Ken Sage, Goldwell and Anne Marie Ng. The show was attended by a large audience, including current and future students, their families and friends.
The winners were:
Category One - Long hair up
- 1st place: Jennifer Vickers from Knebworth, studying an NVQ3
- 2nd place: Rebecca Ginger from Stevenage, studying an NVQ2
- 3rd place: Emmie Burgess, from Hatfield, studying an NVQ2 Apprenticeship
Category Two – Women’s
- 1st place: Danielle Boon from Stevenage, studying VRQ2 Women’s

A varied range of prizes were donated by Goldwell, the internationally-renowned hairdressing suppliers; these included clippers, heating rollers, and a free training day at the Goldwell Academy in London.
Sarah Ball, Deputy Director for Hairdressing, Beauty & Holistic Therapies at NHC, commented: “Once again, the students have put on a fabulous showcase of their work. We’re really proud of what they have achieved today and throughout their studies this year”.
