Star Students Celebrate GCSE and Diploma Results at NHC

Students at North Hertfordshire College celebrated excellent GCSE results achieving 92% passes, and 57% A* - C grades in English, Maths, Science and Spanish.

Tina Nelson from Stevenage ''I studied GCSE Science and I'm really, really, pleased because I achieved an A grade and I only needed a C. Now I can go on to apply for my teacher training and hopefully become a primary school teacher. I chose to study at NHC because you can study evenings which fitted in well with my full time job as a teaching assistant and looking after my two children. I really enjoyed feeling part of the group at college and mixing with other adults. I would definitely recommend this course because the units allow you to pace yourself."

Sarah Roethenbaugh from Stevenage “I came to NHC to study GCSE Science to brush up on my science skills and knowledge before going on to study nursing at the University of Hertfordshire. With my A grade I can confidently go on to study nursing and hopefully become an adult nurse in the future. I've really enjoyed meeting new people at college, I've met some lovely friends and my tutor was also lovely.'

High achievers in Diploma

Students were also high achievers in Diplomas with excellent results achieved this year: 80% of students passed at Foundation Level and 91% at the Higher Level. Students submitting projects as part of their Diploma achieved at 84% at Foundation and 93% at the Higher Level.

Matthew Donno from Stevenage achieved all A grades in his Diploma, including an A* for his film project promoting the work of Great Ormond Street Hospital. “I studied the Foundation Diploma in IT, I got an A which I'm really pleased with because it’s better than I thought I'd do. I'm now going to study the Higher Diploma in IT at NHC. One day I hope to be and IT technician. I've really enjoyed my time at college because there is a good atmosphere, you're treated like an adult and I've made lots of new friends.”

Kerrie-Louise Jones from Letchworth completed a Society Health and Development Diploma with ten A grades, “I’m really pleased and now I can go onto study the Advanced Diploma. I'd like to be a nurse in the future and the Diploma is a good place to start. I've enjoyed my time at NHC. I would definitely advise anyone thinking about coming to NHC to study the Diploma to go for it”.

“This is Just the Beginning” says Vice Principal

“These students are now prepared for the next stage in their lives,” observed NHC Vice Principal, Signe Sutherland,” be it further education, practical vocational training, or a mix of the two. I am delighted and proud of their achievements, but I must stress this is just the beginning; these students will always be part of the NHC community. Our job now is to continue to help them in every way we can, to ensure they have the knowledge, skills, and personal qualities to achieve their ambitions at work and in every-day life.”
