Foundation Degree Student

When I left school I didn’t have the same ambition as I do now. College has helped me to realise what it is I want to do and achieve. To anyone leaving school and unsure of what to do next, don’t be afraid to push the boundaries to get the most out of your college experience. The opportunities are out there you just have to find them. There is a huge potential at college to change the experience so that it meets your needs thanks to the Student’s Union and a different learning culture. What I have most enjoyed about college is that you are treated as an adult and it feels like a step towards the future preparing you for life whether that is employment or going on to University.

From studying at NHC, I have realised my potential. I chose to study a Foundation Degree at college because it’s one of the only places that enables you to study at such a high level alongside a full-time job. I studied for my A Levels at NHC; it’s so handy because I live locally. I knew the college had high success rates and personally coming to college was a progression for me rather than a local sixth form at school. I was also Student President for two years which has helped me become actively involved in the college life.

After my Foundation Degree I would like to go on to complete the full degree at University or start work, I’m interested to see what opportunities arise in the next 2 years. I have developed lots of skills including communication and presentation skills – my written reports have also improved. In fact I have put many of the ideas I have learnt into practise.
