What qualifications or skills will I need to have to get on the courses?It is necessary that you have achieved at least 5 GCSE grades at C or above including Double Award Science at BB, Maths at B and English, with a minimum point score of 43. In addition you will need to attend Science Step-Up classes for 6 weeks. For mature learners or those with non standard qualifications this will be discussed on an individual basis. |
What does the course involve?At AS- 2 examined units + 1 coursework unit Unit 1: Includes biological molecules, cells and body systems, particularly the cardiovascular system. Unit 2: Includes biotechnology, DNA, forensic science and agriculture |
What options will be open to me if I successfully complete the course?AS Biology is a standalone qualification in its own right. Success at AS Biology can lead to progression to A2 Biology. With the full A level in Biology it is possible to progress to study a wide range of science based subjects at H.E. |
