Apprenticeship week at NHC

09 February 2012 - sarah

This week was the fifth National Apprenticeship Week and numerous events took place nationwide to raise the awareness of Apprenticeships and their profile amongst employers, teachers, parents, young people and throughout the media.

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, NHC hosted a range of taster sessions for young people to find out all about life as an apprentice.

Each taster session was designed to provide potential apprentices with an insight into the practical skills and knowledge they would obtain throughout their study and experience in the work place.

Chelsea Rajaloo and Jacob Hamilton attended the hairdressing taster session to hear first-hand from current apprentices about their experiences and also have a go at blow drying techniques.

Chelsea explained: “I’ve always enjoyed hairdressing; I came along because I wanted to see the college. I’m interested in an Apprenticeship because it gives you more experience as well as earning money. I pick things up quickly and I find it easier to learn by doing.”

NHC currently offers a wide range of Apprenticeship programmes from Business to Construction, Hairdressing, Science, IT and more. Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to gain on-the-job experience along with a nationally recognised qualification.
