Students at North Hertfordshire College were overjoyed with their A Level and Diploma results this year. Out of our 350 UCAS applications, over 85% of places have been confirmed so far for our students. Pass rates for eight subjects were at 100% and six students obtained new A* grades. A Level students achieved 100% pass rate and 64% high grades in their Extended Project Qualifications.
Advanced Diploma students received their results for the first time, combining academic, vocational and project work into one qualification equivalent to 3.5 A Levels, the pass rate was at 72% for the main programme, with the project at 79%. Advanced Diploma Business Administration and Finance students took four external examinations and passed at 83%.
With University places being very restricted this year, NHC provided focussed assistance by offering alternatives such as flexible degrees and Apprenticeships. “Our new part-time University places are a real alternative for students who are wishing to continue with their studies and offer the opportunity to earn a salary as well” said Signe Sutherland, Deputy Principal.

Students who are celebrating success and looking forward to their next career step at University included Katie Dowden who won a place at York to study medicine, Lauren Jackson who will now study Psychology at Plymouth and Nicola Chapman who was successful in obtaining a place at Southampton to study Economics and Actuarial Science.
Katie Dowden studied A Level Maths (A), Biology (B) and Chemistry (B). She was “really pleased with my results and to have got a York University place to study medicine. The best thing about college for me is that everyone is so friendly.”
Lauren Jackson, who also took an EPQ (A), studied A Level Psychology, Media and French. She said: “I’m really pleased with my results and getting into my first choice University, Plymouth.” She is going to study Psychology which is her target career.
Nicola Chapman, studied A Level Maths (A), Further Maths (B) and Law (A). She said: “I’ve really enjoyed NHC, had some great teachers, met some wonderful people and had lots of fun.” Nicola now heads for Southampton to study a BSc in Economics and Actuarial Science to achieve her ambition.
Bethan Mason who chose an alternative route to Higher Education was delighted to have won an Apprenticeship with international global missile company MBDA which leads to a Business degree. She was overjoyed with her A Level results in French, Psychology and Politics as she “had done better than expected”, and is “really excited about starting my apprenticeship.”
