Matt Hamnett is the CEO of the Hart Learning Group, and the Principal of North Hertfordshire College. He is also a Fellow of Manchester Metropolitan University’s Centre for Enterprise. Before joining us, Matt spent two and a half years in the major deals team at Capita, identifying and shaping new market opportunities in the public and private sectors. Prior to his time at Capita, Matt spent two years in the strategy consulting practice at big four firm PricewaterhouseCooper's (PwC), and eight years as a Whitehall civil servant - working in BIS and its various predecessor Departments with responsibility for education, skills and economic development policy. He holds a masters degree in HR Management, and a first class honours degree in Philosophy.
Kit began his FE career in 2001, having previously lived and worked in Spain, Mexico and Japan teaching and training English language teachers. Kit is a fully qualified teacher, teacher-trainer and language specialist with a broad set of classroom practitioner and management skills gained from over 20 years’ experience in a range of educational settings. His academic background is in the field of linguistics, having completed a degree in Spanish at Portsmouth University and then a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at King’s College London. He has one published book to his name, a secondary school book on Spanish language and culture called ‘Spain Live’. In his current role as Deputy Principal of North Hertfordshire College, he has strategic responsibility for the College’s highly diverse and varied portfolio, ranging from pre-entry level through to Degree level programmes.
Gary Phillips is the Executive Director for Quality and Innovation at the Hart Learning Group. He has worked in a number of quality and curriculum management roles across the organisation since joining in 2011. Before joining us, Gary spent six years at West Herts College in teaching and curriculum management roles, focussing on the success of students and the quality of their experience, across a range of areas including travel and tourism, public services, forensic science and aviation. Prior to working in further education, Gary spent six years in the travel industry at Thomas Cook working across different business areas in management roles. He holds a masters degree in Education Leadership and Management, an honours degree in English and Criminology and is a qualified teacher.
Lucy Hann is the Managing Director of Hart L&D. Before joining the Hart Learning Group in April, Lucy spent two years in Capita and seven years in PwC’s strategy practice. In that time, she spearheaded work with a series of major corporate clients to help them define their approach to emerging talent, and led the creation of higher level apprenticeships in the professional services sector.
Mark Lewis is Headteacher of The Thomas Alleyne Academy in Stevenage and Managing Director of The Hart Schools Trust, a multi-academy trust currently comprised of three schools. Mark is also a Trustee of Stevenage Education Trust, a charitable trust supporting 47 education institutions in Stevenage. Since gaining qualified teacher status in 2004, Mark has taught in three secondary schools and has been in senior leadership roles since 2008. He became Headteacher of The Thomas Alleyne School in April 2012 and led the school through its conversion to an academy in 2013. The successful transformation of the school was recognised in 2015 when Ofsted judged Thomas Alleyne’s to be ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ leadership and management. The school now aims to be outstanding in all areas by 2018. Mark was promoted to the role of Managing Director of the Hart Schools Trust in September 2014. Mark holds a Masters Degree in Modern History from Oxford University, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from Cambridge University. Mark has also been awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship.
