Training For Employment
The college and our partners aim to be at the heart of our community and have developed a range opportunities to support the local community, employers and the workforce.
The Training for Employment team offer a range of courses designed to help job seekers update their employability skills and refresh or receive initial training for sectors where job opportunities exist.
The team of Job Coaches, Trainers and Job Broker will support you to ensure you are making the most of your applications for employment.
The courses aim to build on your existing skill levels, complete a qualification and improve your job search so that you can compete more effectively in the labour market.
Sectors for which we currently offer training linked to qualifications include:
- Business Administration
- Customer Service for the Retail and Hospitality trades
- Events Security Stewarding and Door Supervisor qualifications
- Working in Construction, Health and Safety plus the CSCS card
- Working in the Health and Social Care sector
- IT for the novice and IT for employment
- Literacy and Numeracy
- Employability Skills including personal development planning, preparing for the workplace, CV workshop, Interview skills and application forms.
Information, Advice and Careers Guidance
All the courses include an IACG session, where our qualified staff can provide guidance to help you make decisions in relation to your career choices.
You will be able to:
- Discuss your skills and experience
- Plan your next career steps
- Use careers software packages and resources
- Decide on the best course or training route for you
Returners
We also offer a course for individuals who are returning to work after a break. The programme is designed to equip you with the skills needed to market yourself effectively to employers and provide the foundations for your return to work. Topics covered include:
- Confidence building and assertiveness techniques
- Working in a team
- Career planning
- Effective communication
- The interview and recruitment process
- Interview techniques
- Decision making skills
- Finding and making successful applications.
All our courses include the support of a personal job coach to help you with the job search process, you will also be able to access continuing advice and guidance to review your progress and plan your return to work.
Eligibility criteria will be applicable to gain free training; if you are not eligible for free training you can access the support for a small fee.
