NHC is proud of its reputation for excellence and high standards. We welcome your feedback about all aspects of college activity. As part of our commitment we have a structured complaints procedure which guarantees prompt response and effective action.

Fees

There are no tuition fees for students aged 16-18. Depending on your chosen course you may have to pay fees related to the purchase of materials, kits or educational visits. Information relating to this will be given to you at your interview.
Full-time students aged 16-18 will be entitled to free examination fees for their main qualification aim.
Students aged 19+ at the start of the course will normally be required to pay a tuition fee and an administration charge in addition to any materials, exams or other costs associated with your course. You may be entitled to a reduction in fees if you are studying for your first qualification at NVQ level 2 or 3 or if you are in receipt of an income-based benefit such as income support or working tax credit. Alternatively you may be able to get fee assistance through the Learner Support Fund. Further information on eligibility* is available from Customer Services.

Information, Advice and Guidance

At NHC, we provide information, advice and guidance to help you make decisions about career choices. We provide an impartial and confidential appointment and drop-in service where you will be able to:
- discuss your skills and experience
- plan your next career steps
- use careers software packages and resources
- decide on the best course or training route for you

Student Services

The Student Services team can also offer help with many day-to-day practical issues whether you need help getting to and from college, are in financial difficulty or just need someone to talk to.

Student Support

It’s good to know that help is there when you need it and NHC ensures you have a full range of support services for every kind of problem. To help you settle in, students are introduced to college life with an induction process where you will:
• Meet your personal tutor
• Receive a timetable for your course
• Find your way around the college
• Learn about the facilities at NHC
• Be introduced to the wide range of IT & learning resources available to you
• Assess whether you need extra support for learning
• Hear about the full range of support services available

Once on the course the person responsible for your welfare and your key point of contact with NHC is your personal tutor. Your personal tutor will:
• Meet you regularly as shown on your timetable
• Maintain close contact with your subject tutors
• Monitor your progress
• Write progress reports and references
• Organise any extra support if necessary
• Help you with research skills
• Provide exam preparation support
• Guide you to other student services when required

Learning Support

Our Assessment Support Centre offers a one to one confidential interview to identify the needs of students who may need support for:
• mobility difficulties/personal care
• sensory impairment, e.g. hearing, visual
• specific learning difficulty, e.g. dyslexia
• medical needs
• second language needs
• English and mathematics difficulties

Transport

Regular bus and train services run through Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth.
