Our mission:
"To provide outstanding teaching and excellent support for learning."
Our Vision
"To be a high achieving and inclusive Sixth Form Academy, that enables all learners to achieve their career and employment goals".
Introduction
Courses in the Sixth Form Academy take place in our excellent facilities at the Stevenage centre. We have a wide range of courses aimed at adults and learners aged 16-19.
These formal qualifications are often essential to progress onto higher education courses and into some careers. Whilst studying with us as a full time learner (and 2 year Access to HE) in the Sixth Form Academy, you will be assigned a personal tutor who will monitor your academic progress and offer help and advice on both academic and other matters.
You will be able to improve your Employability Skills to enhance your career chances in later life and take part in a wide range of enrichment activities
An A level is a level 3 qualification made up of two halves; AS and A2. To successfully complete an A Level both halves are needed.
Some of our A levels have a vocational bias, for example Health and Social Care and Applied Business. We have a wide range of A level subjects in our subject matrix and we are also a member of the Stevenage Partnership which allows our learners to access some subjects that are not taught at college.
Please go to the AS and A level course information to find out more.
Access To Higher Education
Access programmes are suitable for learners who do not normally have formal qualifications but have the commitment and motivation to progress onto a higher education (HE) programme.
Many Access learners have reached a point in their life where they wish to change career direction and gain higher qualifications. Pathways we offer include; Business/ICT, Health, Humanities/Teaching, Social Science/Social Work and Science. For learners who gain a QAA recognised Access Diploma, the choice of subjects that can be studied at higher education is very wide.

Business and Business Administration
The Business Department is comprised of Business Studies, Business Administration and Law.
Courses are mainly full-time for 16-19 year old learners. All Business Studies courses are assessed by coursework as opposed to exams. The National Award in Business (one A-level equivalent) and AS Law are offered as evening classes. A-level Applied Business and A-level Law can be studied in the full time A-level programme. Business Administration subjects are mainly part-time accounting courses, both manual and computerised.
We also run a full time Apprenticeship course in Business Administration.
North Hertfordshire College offers a full portfolio of part time counselling training.
Courses attract a broad range of learners from those interested in becoming qualified counsellors to those who wish to develop their interpersonal skills and self awareness.
In prospect of future Government regulation of the counselling and psychotherapy profession, we work closely with CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) to ensure that our learners will be appropriately qualified and able to meet new challenges.
Learners can study languages on both a full time basis (as part of the A level programme) and part time in the evening.
Languages we offer include, French and Spanish and German through our local consortium at A level as part of our day programme. As part of our evening programme we offer French, Spanish, Italian and German. We also offer bespoke language courses for small groups/businesses in a number of languages including Russian.
It is also possible to study British Sign Language at Levels 1 and 2, and gain qualifications from CACDP - the awarding body.
A full range of science and mathematics subjects is offered at GCSE and A level.
Extended Degree in Science If you wish to study a science degree at the University of Hertfordshire but you lack the formal entry qualifications for direct entry, it is possible to do an Extended Degree in Science.
This initial year of this is taught here at North Hertfordshire College and is a broad based science and mathematics programme. On successful completion of the programme you will be able to progress to a number of science degrees at the University of Hertfordshire.
